Besaapan Gr

Besaapan Gr

Period:
Proterozoic, Cambrian, Ordovician

Age Interval:
Ediacaran-Katian, K5

Province:
Kyzylkum Region

Type Locality and Naming

By col. Besapan, south Tamdytau, C. Kyzylkumy. S.A. Kushnary in 1938 (266, p.26). The term "Besapan Suite" is invalid and is not recommended for use.

Synonym: Besapan Formation, Бесапанская св.

Lithology and Thickness

Pre-Devonian sandy-siltstone formations developed in these mountains were initially combined by many researchers (122; 159; 266; 378) into a single stratigraphic unit - the Besapan Suite, with two, three, four sub-suites, the age of which was interpreted from the Precambrian to the Silurian and even the Devonian (71; 73; 101; 249; 266; 378). P.N. Podkopaev et al. (1966), A.K. Voronkov (149), B.Ya. Khoreva et al. (490), M.A. Akhmedjanov et al. (79), K.K. Pyatkov et al. (376) pointed to some "heterogeneity" and multifaceted nature of the B. Suite. Further research by Z.M. Abdazimova et al. (1985, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1996; 9), P.A. Mukhin et al. (316; 317), Yu.S. Savchuk et al. (396) proved the genetically different nature and age diversity of the rocks of the sub-suites of the Besapan Suite, which contradicts the requirements of the stratigraphic code for the establishment of local stratigraphic units.

In 1991, by the decision of the Stratigraphy and Geological Map Commission of the Kyzylkum Geodynamic Polygon of the Geological Survey, the Besapan Suite with its sub-suites was subdivided into a number of independent units, each of which was given the status of a new suite.

Thus, the first sub-suite b s_{1} was identified as the Kurgantau Fm of the conditional Vendian-Cambrian,

the second b s_{2} - as the Rohat Fm of the Lower-Middle Ordovician,

the third b s_{3} - as the Kosmanachin (ore-bearing) Fm, consisting of packets of tectonic plates, blocks of deposits of different ages (Upper Proterozoic, Upper Cambrian-Ordovician, Middle-Upper Ordovician) and

the fourth b s_{4} - as the Murun Fm (see.) of the Upper Ordovician (9),

Lithology Pattern:
Fine-grained sandstone
